Sixty-four percent of statistics are made up right on the spot. Or so jokes country singer, Todd Snider in his song "Statistician Blues."

 

Politicians and power-brokers do seem to have a problem of the numerical kind. At least many of those that PolitiFact Georgia runs through its AJC Truth-O-Meter.

Statements that could be deemed True, frequently have much different outcomes when politicos insert numbers. Whether discussing employment or crime rates, taxes or "Star Trek" videos, those pesky figures always seem to get in the way.

On our third anniversary, we look back at some PolitiFact Georgia fact-checks where politicians miscalculated a bit and got caught up in the AJC Truth-O-Meter.
