Trump broke promise to establish commission on radical Islam

Amy Sherman
By Amy Sherman July 15, 2020

President Donald Trump promised that one of his first acts as president would be to establish a commission on radical Islam. We found no evidence that he ever created one.

In 2018 and 2019, the Middle East Forum policy group met numerous times with the White House, the forum's Islamist Watch Director Sam Westrop told PolitiFact. But the commission never materialized.

Ibrahim Hooper, a spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said he was also unaware of any evidence that Trump created the commission.

We asked the Trump campaign if Trump had since dropped this promise and did not receive a response.

This pledge rates Promise Broken.
